Castello delle Serre
Serre di Rapolano, Tuscany, Italy
An all-too-brief description would be “an old castle turned into an inn”, but such an explanation of Castello delle Serre would, perhaps, wrongly conjur up images of draughty rooms and a surly innkeeper.

The testimonies of former guests, however, depict something entirely different. Indeed, numerous visitors seem to have nothing but praise for the owner, Salvatore Gangale and his children.

Ascertaining the precise age of this splendid building is difficult. But it would be a great surprise if it were anything short of half-a-millennium old, and possibly a great deal more.

All of the fifteen rooms have their own private bathrooms, and vary from standard doubles to suites. The ‘Deluxe Suite’, however, is split between three levels and is located in the Upper Tower. Castello della Serre also boasts an outdoor swimming pool, bar, and an ancient parkland garden. Evening dinners are available on request, while breakfast is served daily.

More period accommodation in Tuscany

Dimora Casa Eugenia. Loro Ciufenna. For a little high-quality Tusan time-travel you could do a great deal worse than this highly-rated little hotel. Dating back to the 14th century and full of original architectural detail, it is certainly worthy of note here. Learn more through Booking.com
