Chateau d’Etoges. Etoges.
Make no mistake, Chateau d’Etoges is a pretty exclusive hotel. Situated in its own wooded parkland on the route between Starsbourg and Paris, this beautiful building is surrounded by a moat and numerous fountains and ponds. Accommodating guests since 1991, Chateau d’Etoges dates back to the 12th century with modifications having been made in the 16th.
The Chateau was used by several Kings of France as a staging post when travelling to their eastern dominions - Louis XIV, the Sun King, was particularly taken with the water features, and it is also said that Louis XVI stayed here during his flight to Varennes in 1791. Napoleon is also thought to have visited.

Chateau de Fere. The romantic ruins of the original 13th century castle are the backdrop to this four star hotel. Troyes
La Maison de Rhodes. There are some visual parallels to be drawn with the famous Globe Theatre in London – both timber frame buildings with open interior space. That, however, is where the similarities end. Situated in the medieval district of Troyes, Maison de Rhodes once belonged to the Knights Templar Order of Malta and possesses foundations dating from the 12th century and a superstructure from the 17th. Painstakingly restored to its former glory, it now offers 11 guest rooms and four star hospitality. Booking.com | TripAdvisor
Le Champ des Oisaeux. An attractive oak-frame house typical of the many in Troyes built shortly after the great fire of 1524. Booking.com | TripAdvisor
Verneuil
Le Havre du Percheron. Those with a good knowledge of the countryside will probably conclude that this place has a connection to the famous breed of heavy horse. And they would be right - the building was once part of a large farm which specialised in the rearing of plough horses. Rustic and traditional, it offers only two guest rooms. TripAdvisor
Nights In The Past would love to hear from anyone with information regarding historic hotels in Champagne Ardennes and its departments of Marne, Haute-Marn, Aube and Ardennes. We are seeking to expand list of period accommodation in the region, be they chateaux, luxury hotels, boutique hotels, traditional inns or bed & breakfasts. All that matters is that they possess heritage-value and dispense first-rate hospitality irrespective of their official classification. Those with connections to great figures from French history are especially welcome. Thank you.
