Domaine de Kerbastic. Guidel.

Dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, this classic French country house sits amid extensive gardens said to have been designed by Jean-Claude Forestier, a great friend of Monet.

Indeed, this is certainly somewhere that will be of exceptional interest to enthusiasts of arts and literature. Forebears of the Polignac family entertained many a cultural icon here: Stravinsky, Cocteau, Poulenc and Marcel Proust among them. In fact, the latter is said to have taken inspiration for his fictional
Duchesse de Guermantes from the then lady of the house. Both LateRooms and Expedia have more details.

Kervignac

Chateau de Locguenole. If proof were needed of the ability of French architects to employ the dormer window to greater effect than anyone else, this will certainly help. Located on the south Brittany coast, this beautiful 18th and 19th century hotel offers 4-star accommodation in a relaxing environment. Expedia

La Gouesniere

Chateau de Bonaban. A hotel since 1997, the chateau is perfectly located for those seeking to explore nearby Saint Malo and Mont St. Michel. Expedia

Rochefort En Terre

Le Temps de Vivre. Boutique-chic in the former home of a pirate? Yes. TripAdvisor

Quimper

Manoir du Stang. Located in the village of La Foret Fouesnant, just a short drive to the south east of Quimper, Manoir du Stang ticks plenty of period accommodation boxes: moat, tower, and archways included. It dates from the XVI century. Expedia
