Period and Historic Hotels in Majorca
Hotel Can Tem. A small, six room, hotel situated on the old town of Alcudia. The rooms have a contemporary feel on the whole, but there’s no doubting that it’s a genuine period building (17th century). Booking.com
Son Amoixa Vell. This striking building has been in existence for around 500 years, and makes the most of its heritage. Visually appealing to the historian and romantic alike both inside and out, Son Amoixa Vell offers fifteen guest rooms and is close to the town of Manacor in the east of Mallorca. TripAdvisor
Cases de Son Barbassa. A blend of contemporary boutique and 16th century is to be found at this 12 room hotel near Capdepra in the far east of the island. Mr & Mrs Smith
Finca Es Castell. Situated at the foot of the Sierra de Tramuntana Mountains, this is a notably ancient building whose history dates back to the eleventh century. Indeed, the family who own the place have done so since the fifteenth. Truly remarkable. Expedia
Cas Xorc. In the north west of Majorca amid the splendour of the Tramontano mountain range, this old finca has been transformed into a chic-style little hotel offering 12 rooms. Mr & Mrs Smith
Can Furios. Those who stay here certainly seem to have great things to say of this 16th century country house. It is located in Binibona (a few miles to the north of the town of Inca) in the north of the island. TripAdvisor
Sa Torre de Santa Eugenia. The former property of Mallorquian nobility, this historic hotel dates back in parts to 1560. LateRooms

Ca’n Simo. Located in the town of Alcudia, this former manor house dates from the 19th century. It offers 7 individually finished rooms and four-star hospitality. Booking.com | TripAdvisor
Cas Ferrer Nou Hotelet. The six rooms of this boutique hotel are distinctly contemporary, but the setting is an old blacksmith’s property. Booking.com | LateRooms | Expedia

Hotel Can Bonico. Located in Ses Salines, one of Majorca’s most attractive villages, this 4-star hotel may well be tailored to the needs of the modern traveller, but there’s no doubting that its origins go back many centuries. Indeed, this former manor house dates from the 13th century, making it one of the oldest hotels anywhere in the Balearics. LateRooms
Monnaber Vell Hotel. An Agritourism hotel since 1998, documents refer to the existence of a building on the site as far back as 1236. It is likely that some of the ancient fabric of the structure remains, while the present building (less fortified than the original) largely dates from the 17th century. Booking.com | TripAdvisor
Hotel Es Moli. Plenty of fine views are to be found from this 17th century rural house near the village of Deya. The four-star Es Moli offers over 80 rooms and its own secluded bathing cove. Expedia
Hotel Rural S'Olivaret. Quite how old this fine old Mallorcan property is hard to ascertain. But a fair bet would be to say that it’s been standing for more than just a couple of centuries. The hotel of the day dispenses 4-star hospitality. Expedia
Son Mas. Both in a rural location and close to the coast at Porto Cristo, this restored 17th century farmhouse is today a four star hotel offering 16 rooms. LateRooms
Palacio Ca Sa Galesa. Undoubtedly one of the most historic hotels in Majorca, it is also one of the most luxurious. Dating back to the 16th century, it is located right at the heart of Palma, close to the city’s cathedral. It offers only 12 rooms. Booking.com | LateRooms | Lastminute.com
Hotel Dalt Murada. Well rated by independent reviewers, this small hotel at the centre of historic Palma was once the home of several noted Mallorcan families. LateRooms | Expedia
Fornalutx Petit Hotel. Located in what some describe as one of the most beautiful villages in the whole of Spain (Fornalutx, itself), the building once acted as both convent and school. Indeed, the chapel has been transformed into the hotel’s main suite. This is certainly another of Majorca’s notable boutique hotels. Booking.com | TripAdvisor
Sa Pedrissa. Close to the village of Deia, this 17th century Agroturismo hotel further proves that there’s more to accommodation in Majorca than bland modernity. Booking.com

Son Brull. ‘Design hotels’ can sometimes fail when placed in the context of an historic building. However, this would appear to have succeeded to some degree, allowing the original elements of this ancient monastery to shine through. Contemporary themes are not to everyone’s taste, but the heritage traveller might still find it of interest. Mr & Mrs Smith
L’Hermitage Hotel and Spa. Located in the north of the island, this four-star hotel was once a monastery and is said to date, in parts, from the 16th century. Booking.com

Hotel Can Planells. A true old Ibizencan farmhouse, this highly rated Agroturismo property offers 8 select rooms. It is situated close to the village of San Miguel de Balasant in the north of the island. LateRooms | Expedia
Hotel Can Talaias. This is certainly worth an inclusion on Nights In The Past on account of its former owner. What was a run down old finca in need of much restoration and development is today a much-vaunted hotel thanks to Terry Thomas – the late British film actor and comedy icon. It is still run by his family today. TripAdvisor
Can Arabi. It might well be located within easy reach of Ibiza town itself, but Can Arabi is certainly away from the hustle and bustle. Several centuries old, it today offers 6 rooms and plenty of Moorish ambience. Booking.com | TripAdvisor

We sincerely hope you find Nights In The Past a useful resource, and very much hope you might check back in future. However, we are also determined to continue to improve the content and quality, so would very much appreciate any information on romantic and historic hotels in Majorca (Mallorca), Minorca (Menorca) or Ibiza that we might have missed in our research. They can be boutique hotels, agritourismo, quiet bed & breakfasts, or luxury accommodation. These should be period properties or places connected to famous icons of the past. Thank you.
